Kidobi and Your Family Entertainment Provide Screen Time
Parents and Pediatricians Can Feel Good About.
Toronto / Munich
New research suggests that increasing exposure to prosocial content can reduce aggression and
improve scores of social competence among children. Preschool video platform Kidobi and Your
Family Entertainment give parents the tools and the content to ensure their child’s screen time
features non-violent, prosocial programming.
Research published earlier this month in the journal Pediatrics
concludes that reducing children’s exposure to violent media, while increasing their exposure to
prosocial content, can positively impact their behaviour. A companion paper published alongside the
study urges pediatricians to focus as much on quality as quantity when it comes to children’s screen
time.
For busy parents looking to manage their child’s screen time, preschool video platform Kidobi may be
just what the doctor ordered. Kidobi’s software allows parents set filters to limit certain types of
content, for example violent programming, meaning parents can influence their child’s screen time
without having to micro-manage every video.
“Creating a technical solution for parents to easily manage their child’s screen time is just one side of the
issue,” says Leo Henning, Founder and CEO of Kidobi. “We wanted to partner with producers and
distributors that share our values and can offer compelling, high-quality, prosocial content. Your Family
Entertainment is the perfect example of a company that does just that. ”
Kidobi offers a huge range of preschool programming from top producers and distributors, including
Germany’s Your Family Entertainment, which owns one of Europe’s biggest program libraries. “We are
pleased to contribute to the success of KIDOBI with our high-quality and non-violent programs,” says
Klaus Forch, EVP Sales & Legal, Your Family Entertainment. “Series such as Altair, Urmel and Albert have
an educational focus and are loved by kids as well as by parents all over the world.”
Kidobi lets parents create a customizable child profile which guides the programming shown to their
child. Violent or scary content can be restricted using filters and a child’s interests can be added to their
profile to further personalize the experience.
Earlier this month Kidobi was awarded Best Preschool Streaming Video Platform at the Annual iKids
Awards at the Kidscreen Summit. “We are pleased that the great preschool content of our partner Your
Family Entertainment, among others, has helped us to win this highly acclaimed prize,” says Leo
Henning.
“Kidobi has achieved a major goal by winning the iKids award and as one of the major suppliers we are
honoured to have contributed to this success,” says Klaus Forch, Your Family Entertainment AG. Kidobi is
available online at Kidobi.com and as a mobile app available from the App Store and Google Play.
About Your Family Entertainment:
Your Family Entertainment AG (YFE) presents high-quality entertainment with nonviolent and educational focus for kids, teens
and the whole family. The company has its origins in the well-known Ravensburger AG. Since 1981 a library of around 3,500 half
hours of children's and youth programs has been developed continuously – one of Europe’s biggest program libraries in the field
of family entertainment. Your Family Entertainment operates the award winning payTV channel 'yourfamily' for children and
families in German-speaking Europe. After winning the HOT BIRD TM TV AWARD in 2010, the channel was again nominated for
the award in 2011. In 2012 the free-TV channel RiC was launched, which is also available via live stream on the Internet.

Toronto-based Kids' Tech Firm Kidobi
Wins Best Streaming Video Platform
Toronto / New York
Canadian children's website Kidobi has been named
the Best Streaming Video Platform in the Preschool category at the inaugural iKids Awards last
week in New York. The 2013 iKids Awards were designed to highlight the best digital offerings
for kids. The winners were selected unanimously by a panel of five industry judges.
Kidobi, the only Canadian company recognized at the event, uses a sophisticated algorithm to
create personalized playlists for each child while allowing parents to influence the programming
their child sees through a customizable profile. As each child watches Kidobi, the software
adapts to the child by refining the selection of content for that viewer. This allows Kidobi to make
better choices for each viewer the more they watch.
"Personalization will play a vital role in the future of both content distribution and education. This
award demonstrates that the industry understands the importance of adaptive platforms like
Kidobi," said Leo Henning, Founder and CEO of Kidobi.
Henning sees the potential for Kidobi to become much more than a streaming video platform.
"Our goal is to leverage the power of technology to help kids, so it's important that we support a
collaborative approach that allows parents, kids, and child development researchers and
educators to work together."
Kidobi is currently available online at www.kidobi.com, with mobile apps for iPad and Android
devices available from the App Store and Google Play. In 2013 Kidobi will focus on establishing
new partnerships, expanding to more platforms, building their content library, and adding new
features.

Kidobi Launches a Free Version of Their Personalization Software to Help Parents Manage Children’s Media
Toronto
Parents of young children now have another tool to help deal
with screen time overload as Kidobi launches a free version of their personalization software.
Driven by rising rates of screen time, particularly among young children, Kidobi empowers
parents to "make screen time count" by giving parents the means to customize their children's
programming to fit their unique values.
Kidobi's free service allows parents to build and edit playlists of children's videos from around
the web and tailor the programming to their child's unique needs. "Preschoolers watch 32 hours
of TV every week, making it their primary activity. Parents should be involved in what their kids
are watching but this is a huge burden for parents," says Leo Henning, Founder & CEO of
Kidobi and a father of three young girls. "Asking parents to make sure their kids' screen time is
well-spent is an impossible task because of the sheer volume of content they're watching."
Henning recognized that a one-size-fits-all solution would be inadequate. "Every child has
different needs and every parent has different opinions on what constitutes quality screen time,"
asserts Henning. "Kidobi was developed to let parents implement their own best practice when it
comes to children's media, without having to work overtime."
Kidobi's technology incorporates artificial intelligence and expert ratings with reviews that are
crowd-sourced from parents to allow for granular control over what content will be shown to
each child.
Parents can set content filters, time limits and create a personalized curriculum, which Kidobi
uses to program the child's personal learning channel. For a more hands-on experience parents
can browse through the video library to create and share their own playlists on a huge variety of
subjects.
The free version of Kidobi gives parents access to the company's advanced parental controls to
manage curated children's content from YouTube. Parents can purchase access to Kidobi's
Premium Video subscription package, which features thousands of educational and entertaining
videos at the sale price of $4/month (regularly priced at $8/month).
Earlier this summer Kidobi launched mobile versions of its software for iPad and Google's
Android operating system.

Kidobi Expands its Reach with the Launch of its Android App
Toronto
Preschool video platform Kidobi today launched their latest mobile app which is now available on Google's Android platform. The app is compatible with Android versions 3.1 and above, making Kidobi's mobile app available on hundreds of devices, including smartphones, tablets and Smart TVs.

The announcement follows the recent release of their iPad app, which is available now on the Apple App Store, as the company aggressively pursues multi-platform expansion. The company plans to make the Kidobi app available on additional platforms later this year.
"We've had a very positive response from parents about our iPad app," said Kidobi CEO Leo Henning, "Now we're able to take Kidobi to more platforms and help even more parents make their child's screen time count, regardless of the device they use. Google's Android provides a strategic advantage as it allows us to deploy Kidobi to a huge number of devices, from Smart TVs to tablets to smartphones."
Kidobi is a subscription-based service that provides educational and entertainment content for preschoolers in a unique way. The service creates personalized playlists based on a child's age, developmental stage, and their parents' preferences while following a personalized curriculum for each child.
Kidobi was designed to let parents be as involved as they choose. "It's an advanced educational tool that helps them jumpstart their preschool child's education and get involved with what their child is learning through an individualized curriculum, progress reports and activity suggestions," Henning explained. "But we also understand that parents today are busier than ever. So you can just turn it on and it works like a TV, only the programming is customized to your child."

Kidobi Takes Their Mission to 'Make Screen Time Count' to the iPad
Toronto
As screen time among children continues to rise, Toronto-based software company Kidobi is creating digital tools for parents to help "make screen time count.‟ Children today have unprecedented access to screen media, with preschoolers spending an average of 32 hours each week watching television. Today the company announced the release of their iPad app, available for free in the App Store

Kidobi is a new online video platform for preschoolers that creates a personalized curriculum for every child and adapts to their level as they go, giving them the reinforcement needed to master new skills and learn at their own pace. With children spending more time with screens than they do in school, there is a growing need among parents for an accessible means to ensure the content their child is exposed to is appropriate and reflects their values.
The Kidobi iPad App allows Kidobi subscribers to access their child's personal learning channel directly from the device. With the iPad app or on Kidobi.com, parents and their children get access to thousands of educational and entertaining videos for kids.
The idea for a preschool personalization platform came about as a result of one parent's frustration with searching online for educational content for his daughter. Back in 2008, Founder and CEO of Kidobi, Leo Henning, spent a little time searching online for educational content that matched his daughter's needs and interests. The difficulties he encountered finding content at the right level, on an appropriate topic, not to mention something his daughter liked, were non-trivial. "It was excruciating," recalls Henning. "I know what she's interested in and I know when something is too advanced for her, but there were no guidelines or tools to help. Essentially, I had to pre-screen everything and make my best guess. I knew there was a simpler way."
When he looked for a solution and found none, he decided to build one. Henning went on to develop a tool that would allow children to access quality educational and entertainment content that was at the right level for each viewer, building in lots of features for parents to guide the programming.
The company, which launched Kidobi.com last summer, says it is responding to the needs of their customers. "Parents' and children's use of iPads has grown substantially in the past year. They expect to be able to access all of their services through that device," said Leo Henning, Founder and CEO of Kidobi. "Now parents can help make their kids' screen time count on the iPad as well." The company plans to release a mobile app in the Android App Market in the coming weeks.
The parental controls on Kidobi.com and Kidobi for iPad allow parents to block, rate, and save videos directly from the player. Parents are able to customize the programming by adding filters, interests, or setting a curriculum focus for each child from their Kidobi account. More than ever, Kidobi is an essential part of the mobile experience for preschoolers and their parents.
